Axe throwing is simple, but part of the fun is that you can keep learning and improving as a player. If you’re already a fairly seasoned player, but you’re still not quite sticking the target every time or want to refine your method, here are some tips that will help you improve your axe throwing skills:
- Find your sweet spot: For an ideal throw, you axe should only rotate once before striking the target. This means the spot where you stand plays a big factor in ensuring a perfect strike. Standing too far away means the axe will over rotate, while being too close will cause an under rotation. Everyone has a different sweet spot, and once you find yours, it will help you to gain consistency in your shots.
- Find inner balance: You’ve already got the right grip and stance for a proper throw, but now what? Master the solid stance. Staying relaxed and balanced will help you keep yourself stable as you execute a throw, keeping the stance before, during, and after throwing the axe. Having consistent follow-through as you release the axe and keep your body moving towards the center of the target will improve your aim. Namaste!
- Find the right rhythm: Practice and try different grips or throws to see what feels right for you and what consistently works best. Adjust one variable at a time to see how it impacts your throw and, once you get a rhythm, aim to maintain consistency. Like driving a car, your muscles will start to remember just what to do.
